Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Cancer Patients

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Cancer Patients

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is one of several types of oxygen therapies (also known as oxygen therapies) that have shown potential for use in the treatment of cancer. Hyperbaric oxygen treatments, or HBOT, are particularly beneficial to cancer patients because of the powerful effect it has on their tissues. This therapy is also called as pure oxygen therapy because, in addition to the pure oxygen being delivered to the patient, pure oxygen is also circulated in the chamber that contains the hyperbaric oxygen generator. The generator converts air into oxygen molecules, and the patient then experiences the full effects of HBOT through the continuous exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide molecules.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is most commonly used to combat the effects of radiation therapy. This type of therapy has proven to be especially helpful in improving the healing process of those who have undergone radiation therapy for cancer treatments. During the therapy, typically a patient is breathed in pure oxygen at a very high pressure, usually more than ten pounds per square inch, which helps the patient to increase his or her lung function. Hyperbaric oxygen therapies can also be used to treat other health conditions such as stroke, respiratory problems, and severe burns.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for cancer patients is currently undergoing clinical trials. The hyperbaric oxygen chambers are made up of a plastic tube with a small window at its opening, which allows an exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen molecules. The oxygen therapy chambers are attached to a portable medical device, which can be used to provide oxygen when the patient is not positioned in the chamber. Patients can take regular medications while they are in the chamber, and some even take home their own medication at home after they leave the treatment facility. This type of therapy is considered minimally invasive and can be completed in less than ten minutes.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is being utilized in many different situations. In clinical trials, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has shown to be able to decrease the pain and symptoms associated with head injuries, spinal cord injuries, strokes, chronic lung diseases, and certain cardiac conditions. Some research studies also indicate that hyperbaric oxygen therapy may help to improve the immune system of cancer patients. These results are promising and further studies should be conducted in order to determine if these results are accurate. Currently, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is being utilized in over 150 hospitals across the country. Many cancer patients have greatly benefited from this type of therapy, bringing positive results that have helped to improve their overall health.

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is being utilized by many cancer patients who are undergoing surgery to treat their cancers. During this type of oxygen treatment, the patient’s body does not retain excess fat or cells that would normally be stored during surgery. This enables the body to release energy and heal more quickly after any type of surgery. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment can promote tumor growth because it can increase blood flow to the tumor area.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a cost-effective treatment option for cancer patients who do not wish to be subjected to more invasive treatment options like surgery. Hyperbaric oxygen treatments have been shown to improve recovery rates in several instances. It can even promote tumor growth, but researchers are continuing to study the effects of this treatment and how it may affect cancer patients.
