Nude yoga, also called Vinyasa yoga, is a form of yoga that originates from India and which involves a lot of movement and flexibility training. Nude yoga has been around for a long time because it’s a very natural, easy way to get a great workout and to feel great while you’re at it. Although many people think that practicing yoga with your clothes on is somehow improper or even downright wrong, the truth is that naked yoga poses are just as good as clothes if not better. If you’ve never practiced yoga before then you may be wondering what kind of exercises to do and how to start off – but we’ll be covering all that in a moment!
The first thing that you need to know about nude yoga is that you don’t have to be completely nude. The poses that you will be doing are meant to be comfortably loose and not revealing. You don’t need to expose everything – just a little bit of your skin (which most people would describe as ‘down there’), anyway. Nude yoga practice can actually be a very fun and educational experience because you get to learn new poses in a totally natural way – by doing them! As you become more comfortable with the poses and feel more like being in nature rather than feeling like you’re still in your dressing room, you can then add some clothing to add some extra comfort.
In a naked yoga class you will do poses such as strumming/touching, balancing, stretching, and bending, using the thighs, hips, waist, back, or neck to move from one pose to another. Some teachers might put a skip in class so that when you come up for your next exercise you can refresh yourself. Nude yoga is often thought of as an exercise that’s simply sexy, but it’s not at all. It’s a natural exercise that you can enjoy regardless of whether you’re wearing clothes or not. It doesn’t matter if you’re shy or an exhibitionist, as long as you practice safely and you keep your mind and body focused on the exercise rather than on how you look. That’s what counts the most.
